Dad Navy-1

De26-58Our father served his country in its' hour of greatest need.  The ink on his high school diploma was not even dry when he signed his enlistment papers.  He served with honor in the US Navy as a "Motor Mac" (Motor Machinist Mate) and achieved MOMM 3/C rank.  He served on the USS Dempsey from September 1943 to October 1945.  The USS Dempsey and her crew went "in harm's way" to preserve our freedom and way of life.  They endured life threatening battles, sleep depriving false alarms and many hours of boredom.  This proud ship and crew came home to a grateful nation.  The USS Dempsey earned three Battle Stars in the Pacific Theater of operations.  As we were growing up, we can remember Dad speaking with great pride and affection for the ship that he served on, the USS Dempsey.  Thank You, Dad, for preserving our great nation, the United States of America.
