The USS Dempsey was an Evarts class DE, the top two rows are an example of the Cannon class, the bottom row is an example of the Buckley class.    The Evarts class DE was only 289' 5" in length, with a beam of 35'; whereas, all of the other classes of WWII DE's were 306' in length, with a beam of 37'.  The Evarts class was known as the "Short Hull" DE and the only DE class that did not have the 21" Torpedo Launching tubes.
